FORT SETTLEMENT MIDDLE SCHOOL NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY Responsibilities of Membership As a member of the National Junior Honor Society, I realize that I am responsible for maintaining the ideals of the organization. I also understand that in order to retain my membership in the National Junior Honor Society, I MUST maintain the standards of scholarship, service, leadership, citizenship, and character, which formed the basis for my selection. The following stipulations have been sanctioned by the Fort Settlement National Junior Honor Society and will be upheld through deliberations and discussions of the Faculty Council. The Faculty Council is composed of six members: five FSMS faculty members and the chapter advisor who is not a voting member. 1. Members must maintain a cumulative average of 90.0 % for all core classes. 2. Grade point averages will be reviewed at the end of each nine weeks. Any member whose average falls below 90.0% will receive a warning letter and a probationary period of one nine weeks during which the average must be improved to 90.0% or above. Failure to raise the average to a minimum of 90.0% by the end of the probationary period will result in dismissal from the National Junior Honor Society. 3. A member is allowed only one warning letter resulting from any violation of scholarship, leadership, character, citizenship, or service qualifications. Any act or violation that would warrant a second warning letter will result in dismissal from the society. 4. Any member who receives a "U" in conduct in any grading period will be sent a warning letter regarding his character qualifications. This student will receive a nine week probationary period during which the conduct grade must be improved. Failure to improve this conduct grade by the end of the nine week probationary period may result in dismissal pending action of the advisory council. 5. Any member assigned to BLC or suspended from school will be subject to immediate dismissal. 6. Members who fall below the standards which were the basis for their selection shall be promptly warned in writing by the chapter advisor and given a reasonable amount of time to correct the deficiency, except that in the case of a flagrant violation of the school rules or civic laws a member does not have to be warned. 7. Any member engaging in ANY ACT OF CHEATING which is documented with a discipline referral will receive a letter of dismissal. 8. Any member engaging in ANY ACT OF COMPUTER VIOLATION that is documented by a discipline referral will receive a letter of dismissal. 9. Attendance at all meetings and participation in all activities are expected. 10. All members are EXPECTED to complete SIX hours of service to the school and community each semester. Documentation of these service hours, including an adult’s signature, must be submitted to the chapter advisor in WRITING. 11. The Faculty Council reserves the authority to take note of extenuating circumstances as it deems appropriate and rule accordingly.
